high day three estradiol

by C. A., May 12, 2008 08:17AM
I am 40 years old.  Last autumn I tried four unsuccessful cycles with insemination of frozen sperm in the US.  Now I have started fertility treatment in my own country, and I have a donor.  It is impossible that I have sex with the donor who is gay.  The problem is that the doctor refuses to do inseminations because he says that my estradiol is too high.  He says that the follicles develop too quickly and it will be impossible to get pregnant that cycle.  Can you say that so categorically?  I know I ovulate every month, I always get my LH surge on day 9, and in the US the ultrasound in connection with the inseminations showed no problems with the ovulation part.  Instead I do home inseminations, but I don’t know the efficiency of those.  My friend comes over, and it is only few  minutes from ejaculation to I inject it into my vagina.  But I cant help feeling that my home inseminations are not the most optimal.  Some of the problem may be that the legislation in my country only allow fertility treatment for  heterosexual couples in marriagelike cohabitation.  So unfortunately the presumtion is that we are having sex and that we have tried for a while.  His spermtest was good.
What would you suggest me to do.  I can travel to London, a two hour flight away and have it done there, but it will be more stressful.  It has happened two cycles that we have had to do home inseminations, I think the doctor is waiting for a good cycle so that we can do an IVF treatment.  I have pressed on him to do inseminations but he doesn’t see the point.  But he has agreed to do an ultrasound next time I am in, and not only the bloodwork.  He did an ultrasound at the initial consultation, and said it looked good, but has not done any in connection with these two cycles.
When I was in the US my estradiol levels were
69
170
64
107
These  were taken 2nd or 3rd day, but the 170 was taken day 4.
I think my doctor at home said 0.42 or 1.42 or something.
Sincerely,
C.  A.

To: the doctor
Since i wrote this I have had pregnancy confirmed by bloodtest so I guess that kind of answers my questions.  It is only 13 days since my insemination so I know I may still loose it, and will have to continue trying.  I guess I can then assume that home inseminations perfectly well do the job, and no need to go abroad for iui s or something if the bloodwork is not good enough for IVF
