Kidney Cysts

by tintexas, Jun 16, 2007 12:00AM
I was told I have multiple tiny benign kidney cysts involving both kidneys. Could you please explain what this means, how serious this is... and what kind of disease I have. I am 43 yr. old white female with hep c. I have no knowledge of renal disease in my family.
Thank you

Cysts in the kidneys are not uncommon, and are incidentally found on some imaging scans.

Normally, they are followed conservatively.  If they start to cause pain, or decrease kidney function, they can be progressively monitored via serial CT scan or ultrasounds.

A blood test can be done to evaluate kidney function.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
