Prostate or what?

by Januaryfreakout, May 18, 2007 12:00AM
42 year male- in above average health
1.Molluscm in gental area in Dec'06, mostly cleared up now.Five weeks ago I quit drinking all soft-drinks and have been drinking only lots of water everyday since.

2. About February I noticed a change in my ejaculation - It would come out normal for first couple of squirts -then dribble out. It still does this now. And it seems less comes out.

3. 9 days ago annoying discomfort in the pereneum area. Swollen a bit and if I excrcsed or went walking it gets worse. Sometimes it seems normal and there is no discmfrt, other times it will get inflamed and feel a bit like a mild burning irritation, then later it may calm down and feel almost normal. My urination seems fine-none of the classical symptoms.

4. Went to my GP 3 days ago. He did a DRE and said prostate did not feel abnormal or enlarged. He said my urine sample was fine He didnt find anything else. He put me on Cipro for 2 weeks. After 3 days of Cipro I dont notice any real difference.

5. Does this sound like prostatitus? Would it be an infection since ejaculation change back in Feb. Does this heal itself or once I get prostate trouble does it stay with me for life? Since the Doc found nothing abnormal in the DRE is that an indication its pretty minor and has a chance to heal itself? If its an infection is 2 weeks Cipro a realistic regimen or should it be longer? Any input or theories appreciated - thanks.

2 weeks of Cipro would treat may of the major GU infections.

There are some cases of prostatitis that may require longer treatment courses.  A transrectal ultrasound can be done to rule out abscess.  You can also consider a prostatic massage which would express prostatic fluid to be sent for analysis and culture.

The semen can be also sent off for analysis if there is a significant change in its character.

These options can be discussed with your personal urologist.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
