Penile discharge during bowel movement

by Pompower, Sep 06, 2006 12:00AM
In October last year I was away on a business trip and had protected sex with an escort with a condom used at all times (had unprotected oral sex many months before but no syptoms). I also masturbated frequently on this trip. On my return I noticed a red patch on the top area of my penis head which was not covered by my foreskin. It looked a bit abnormal but nothing major, however I also had (very) occassional discharge when passing a stool (and only then). My wife had also just been told she had thrush which she gets periodically.

I went to my GP who examined me & tested for STD's which all came back negative. He thought that I'd probably picked up thrush (candida) from my wife & gave me some cream to apply. This helped a bit & over time the redness subsided (took a while) although the penis tip still looks a little reder and more withered than before. However, to be safe I also went to a dermatologist who inspected me and said it looked normal and it may just have been due to my sensitive skin type.

This was all good except that every few weeks (2-6) I would get a discharge when passing a stool. It was only if I was straining hard & or had had to hold it in for some reason. Generally it was clear like pre-*** but occassional it was white like cottage cheese & generally it had to b massahed up the penis shaft. This has carried on for 10 months now and while I dont really show any other sypmtoms the discharge is a little unnerving. From reading it sounds like it may be Prostatitis but I dont have a lot of the other typical symptoms. I occassionally get aches in the testicles and a sore back but nothing I would say was unusual.

I am a 40 year old who is otherwise fit and in very good help. Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

If you were using a condom, the chances of an STD becomes less likely.

Prostatitis is certainly possible, and can lead to the discharge.  A digital rectal exam, sampling and culturing the fluid, as well as a transrectal ultrasound can comprehensively look at this possibility.

Candida is also possible (given the cheese-like consistency).  Sending the sample off for fungal cultures can also be considered.

These options can be discussed with your personal physician or urologist.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
