Frequent Urination

Dr. I am a seemingly healthy 33 year old man who cannot sleep through the night without getting up to urinate anywhere from 1 to 3 times a night, mostly 2 times. This has been going on for a few years. It screws up my sleep pattern and never allows me to get a good nights rest. I am not diabetic and in the past when I have asked my Dr’s about this they never seemed to give it much thought and said it’s probably nothing. I was told by a Urologist that I have a small testicular cyst and was wondering if that could cause this? Should I be worried or is it possible to just have to pee this much? I am living out of the country and it’s not an easy task to just go see a proper doctor. Thanks for your help!

I agree with testing for diabetes.  I also would add on a thyroid test.

If those are negative, evaluation for prostate enlargement should be done.  A digital rectal exam and/or a transrectal ultrasound can be considered.

Medications and some beverages (i.e. alcohol or caffeine) can also affect urinary frequency.

These options can be discussed with your personal physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
