elevated psa , prostatitis and std

My psa jumped from 1.5 to 30.. Treated with cipro and it went down to 10 after 4 weeks, but did not go down from there. I am now taking amoxicillin, 875 mg. twice daily... The diagnosis seems to be prostatitis, but I was wondering if there could be an std somewhere causing an elevated psa ... the urine tests disclosed nothing but I wonder if they test for std when doing the urine test... I did receive oral sex and the elevated psa came after... could there be any connection

There can be several causes for an elevated PSA.  Prostatitis, cancer, an enlarged prostate, or even a simple digital rectal exam are all possibilities.

The fact that the PSA decreased so dramatically after a course of antibiotics, suggests prostatitis.  However, to be sure, you may want to be evaluated by a urologist to see if biopsies are need to definitively rule out cancer.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
