For the past year I have had pelvic pain. I have had laparoscopy surgery done in search of possibly of endometriosis and to no avail nothing was found but a small cyst. I have not told my doctor this because I didn't think about it recently but when I go to void at the end of urination it hurts a little in my abdomin in the pelvic area. When I am finished urninating when I stand up there is a leakage of urine (about maybe two tablespoons). I never thought anything of it. I just thought maybe I had to do kegal exercises and never once thought it might have anything to do with my abdominal pain. My symptoms worsen when I do not drink a lot of fluids. I am now five months pregnant and recently the pain is worse. Could it be a possibility that my bladder is not emptying completely and causing this pain? Could the baby be putting pressure on my bladder making it more painful?
Dear Jacki, Pain with urination can be caused by a variety of conditions. These include urinary tract infections, interstitial cystitis, endometriosis involving the bladder to name a few. Any one of these conditions could be worsened by pregnancy. HFHS M.D.-KR
