Question Title: Bleeding after Holmium Laser and cystouretersscopy

Forum: The Urology Forum
Topic: Kidney/Urinary Stones

I had a large kidney stone treated by laser and cystoscopy. I have a stent that will stay in place 3 or 4 weeks. How long should blood in urine occur after such a procedure? Also, there was some hydronephrosis. Is that due to partial blockage of ureter?

Dear Tammy
Some people will continue to have gross blood in their urine as long as the stent is in. Hematuria which is lite red and without clots this is not of concern because it is not enough to lower your red blood count. If not before, the hematuria should clear spontaneously a couple of days after the stent is removed.
Hydronephrosis, a swollen renal collecting system, is usually due to the obstruction caused by the stone. If the hydronephrosis was not long-standing , it should resolve after the stent is removed.
