Urethral warts are a common problem. They are a form of sexually transmitted diseases. The virus that is associated with this condition is HPV (human papilloma virus). There are several forms of HPV including HPV 6, 11, 16, 18. The 16 and 18 types are more often associated with penile cancer than the 6 and 11 forms. Pathologists are able to subtype the HPV for your doctor to be able to give you more information.
When the treatment of the warts causes meatal stenosis,( narrowing of the urethra)
this is usually treated with a meatotomy. Meatal stenosis can lead to spraying of the urine. This is a simple procedure. The urethral opening is widened by making an incision in the urethra and suturing the lining of the urethra to the skin of the penis.
