: Nine days ago, I was diagnosed with a UTI (blood in urine, no pain) and
put on Augmentin. After 5 days of the anitbiotic, my urine was tested
again, and was clear, so my doctor told me to stop taking it. Since this
started, however, I have frequently had the urge to urinate right after I
finish urinating. I know I don't have to go again that quick, and the
urge usually goes away. Occasionally I will try to go again, but can't.
I also occasionally get a slight burning at the tip of my penis, during
urination or long after. Will this go away? What could it be?

Dear Mike
Thanks for your questions
This sensation is very typical for a urinary tract infection. It usually take about 12-14 days to get back to normal. I would recommend that you recheck your urine off antibiotics to make sure your are adequately treated.
After you have recovered from a simple urinary tract infection, some urologist recommend for the male, a full urinary work-up. The work-up includes Xrays of dye going through the kidneys to the bladder (IVP) and looking into the bladder with a telescope. Infected kidney stones, bladder stones and tumors or outpouchings in the bladder wall that keep the bladder from emptying well are just a few things these test may find that need treatment. Hope this has helped and Good Luck!
