Question Title: Prostate infection and link to prostate cancer

Forum: The Urology Forum
Topic: Prostate Cancer

At 28 I was told today by my physician that I have a prostate infection. My question is: is this an indicator of things to come? Do I have a higher chance of getting prostate cancer?

Dear Rusty
Thanks for your question .
There is no strong literature which links prostate infections to prostate cancer. It is recommended to begin prostate screening with a digital rectal exam and PSA yearly at the age of 50. If you have a positive family history or are African American you should start at the age of 40.
