Question Title: Prostitectomy and Viagra

Forum: The Urology Forum
Topic: Prostate Cancer

Dear Drs,
Thank you for your time. It is much appreciated. My question is, does Viagra work for men who have had a Radical Prostitectomy?

----------------------------------------
Dear Dan,
Thanks for your query. Erectile dysfunction following radical prostatectomy is usually secondary to the damage to the nerve supply and blood vessels which enable erections. These patients are not the best candidates for Viagra. The response rates are about 60% in this group of patients. If nerve-sparing procedure was performed, response to Viagra may be better.
