Question Title: dilantin, tegritol, phenobarbitol and degenerative joint/disc disease

Forum: Neurology Forum
Topic: Epilepsy

I have been on one or more of the above mentioned drugs for ove 25 years. I have suffered from degenerative disc disease for the past 10 years. I have seen dilantin and phenobarbitol listed as being contributory to osteoarthritis and DJD. Where can I find more information on the correlation? Thank you in advance. HW

The asociation between phenytoin and phenobarbitol and osteoarthritis or
DJD is a fairly weak one, I have performed a 20 year literature search in
Medline which cross references 3,600 medical journals for every year, I
could only find a reference to one case and I have attached the reference
below, I hope you can use it to further your researches.
