I have recently been having unprotected sex with my partner. I had started a pack of pills on the first day of my last period. Then I had taken 7 pills and missed four which consequently made me start another 5 day long period. After that I decided to stop the pill until I could get back on track. The first day of that second triggered pregnancy was October 18th. I was expecting to start my period on Sunday November 15th, but never started. I have been having acne, backaches, and cramps, but no period yet. Is this normal? I took a pregnancy test yesterday and it was negative. Is there a chance that I still may be pregnant? Is it possible that I won't have a period this month due to stress and screwing up my pills like that?

Dear Jennifer:
The average time from a pill-caused period until the first "normal" period on your own is 6 weeks. Thus, the most likely explanation for a delay in starting your period, symptoms such as acne and cramps, and a negative pregnancy test is an effect of taking part of a package of birth control pills.
If a normal menstrual period does not start by 6 weeks from the last bleeding or the bleeding is not "like a normal period", blood tests to rule out pregnancy will be important.
