Question Title: Pain and pressure behind eye?

Forum: The Eye Care Forum
Topic: Macular Degeneration

I'm having occurences of pain and pressure behind my left eye. I don't have blurred vision while the pain is happening but I do sometimes have it a day later. I have MS and have been told by my neuro that I tested as at the area under my left eyebrow and above the eye while I am sleeping. Is this all right to do? Many thanks for your time. JoRee

People with MS are more likely to get optic neuritis which is an inflammatory disease of the optic nerve. It usually presents with pain on eye movements, acute vision loss and changes in the visual field.

This usually improves on its own though intravenous steroids may be given. People with MS are more likely to have recurrences and more residual vision loss.

The history you give is not classic for acute optic neuritis. However, since you have MS and you have a history of previous optic neuritis, you need a full examination by an ophthalmologist for appropriate diagnosis and treatment.

It is very common for people to rub their eyes at night. This is usually not a problem in healthy eyes.

HFHS MD-NI
