Question Title: LASIK surgery

Forum: The Eye Care Forum
Topic: Laser Vision Correction (LASIK and PRK)

I am extremely near sighted with a slight astigmatism. I am 35 and have been wearing contacts for 20 years. My contacts are (-850) for both eyes and glasses are aprox (-1000). I'm located in Houston Texas and my eye doctor told me I was a great canidate but they do the surgery in Mexico. He said that there is better rated equipment there for my severe condition. I then called another center and they said they could do the surgery here in Houston. My question is is there equipment in the US that can correct my eyesight rather than going to Mexico? or is Mexico a better option? or is it better for me to wait for better equipment to be used in the US? And whenever I ask if they can do one eye at a time they always discourage it why? It would be a dream to correct my vision but since I am so blind without correction I also know what it is like to be blind and am a little anxious to risk what I have. Thank you in advance for your time and service.

People who are near-sighted like yourself can be treated in the United States with the latest and best technology. I am sure there are many well qualified refractive surgeons in your area who can treat patients with your level of myopia. You can visit the American Academy of Ophthalmology website to find out the names of specialists in your area.

We have many specialists at Henry Ford Hospital who be happy to evaluate you if you are ever in the Detroit metro area.
