I am a keratoconus patient in both eyes but I have been underwent eye transplantation (one eye) in 1997. My stitch have been removed 1st January this year after transplanted in August, 1997. But there is some changes in my eye, after every three or four
As you are aware, the recovery following corneal transplantation may be a year or longer. Fortunately, most people do very well. The symptoms that you are describing may represent inflammation of the cornea or inflammation inside the eye. Both of these can be treated with eye drops. It is possible that the symptoms that you are describing could represent early rejection, however, this should be visible during your examination by your transplant surgeon. With corneal translplantation, there are many sutures placed at the time of surgery, and they are removed periodically during the next several months or years. You are usually given antibiotic drops for a few days after to decrease the risk of infection following removal. Infection is uncommon but this can occur. It is important that you discuss this with your doctor and follow up as he/she recommends. This information is provided for medical educational purposes only. Sincerely: HFHS M.D.-JL
