Dear Doctors, I have recently experienced acute vision loss inmy left eye and could see only the E on the chart which was blurry and grey as well. I do have askewed vision similar to double vision but out of line and if I do not receive my glasses in a timely fashion, I see triple!

I also have visual disturbances with color swirls, objects which are not usual such as seeing my antibodies, possible dna-like object (tan), a red object which looked like a Chinese Symbol used on shields; very bizarre! There is much more but I will not relate as it would take too much space!

The usual occular migraine symptoms presenting as zig-zags, flickers, flashes, etc. with floaters of extended size not just spots. I have no pain, the visual symptoms are present 24hours a day and have been for approx. a range of 1-8years according to occurance date. I have accepted all the above except the vision loss episode and a new disturbance which could only be a neurological symptom(CNS) in which could be diagnosed if taken seriously! Meanwhile, I am writing this post in extreme pain due to a wax and wane pain in and around my angel bone & dorsal/high area with increased tingling down my arm.

My question is this: What is Macular Epiretinal Membrane/Punc. Cellophane Maculopy and can it cause such symptoms?

I have been told that this is what is causing my acute vision loss; however, the retinologist disagrees. The Neuro-Op feel that this is the cause; and the neurologist will go along with the neuro-op as they are fellows and this neuro feels that it is occular!!!! Ok! I know you can not diagnois over the internet but maybe just a hint of what I am going through as the Acute Vision Loss is now back to normal again!!

With about 5 other neurological episodes (sporadic), it seems to me it could be a neurological disorder. Mri does show non-specific artifacts and scatters of such; however, the neuro did suggest that one of these artifacts was quite large in the white matter and now a problem with my arm resulting from a possible spinal problem as well as 8 other neurological symptoms to date. What am I supposed to do to get a neuro. to take me seriously as I have Fibromyalgia, Arthritis, etc. Please Help!

epiretinal membrane or macular epiretinal pucker is a disorder, usually seen in females in their 50's and above, that is caused by a very thin membrane covering the front of the macula, the most sensitive part of retina, where the majority of light rays are focused. you can think of this as cellophane wrapping. it is typically a very slow process and does not tend to cause acute visual loss- but it does and can cause significant visual loss and distortion in your vision. of course this would only be in the eye that has the membrane. i cannot diagnose you without examining you, obviously. we would be glad to see you here at henry ford please call 800-363-7575 for an appt. and good luck.
