Question Title: So it's not Macular Degeneration...Forum: The Eye Care Forum

Posted by Diane on June 22, 1999 at 09:31:04 I posted background info in my message "Could it be Macular Degeneration?" 6-11-99. Now I have been sent to the U of Houston Eye Institute for 5 hrs of thorough testing. One specialist said I had a "disk at risk", afferent pupil defect, a pale disc and questionable border...then said I could have a meningioma. My March orbit MRI was not done with fat sat so they want that done over. I thought I would have a diagnosis by now...I've been to my opthamologist, neurologist and now neuro-opthamologists (2) with an intern checking everything out...so frustrating. My R eye keeps getting foggier and the fan-like shadow keeps swirling in my eye. I looked up meningiomas on the web and it isn't too thrilling to contemplate that kind of diagnosis...and it's very hard to wait and wait and wait. Thank you for your website and being there for all of us who need someone to talk to.
Posted by HFHS MD - NI on June 22, 1999 at 10:18:20 It seems like you are having a very thorough evaluation. They should be able to help determine the cause of your symptoms. MRI's done with fat supression and contrast allow for the best visualization around the eye in the orbit. There are different types of meningiomas. Most are fairly slow growing. If they find a meningioma, you may want to see a neurosurgeon also. Keep us posted on your final diagnosis.
