Question Title: Hypothyroidism, Seizures, Headaches and Weakening Vision?

Forum: The Eye Care Forum
Topic: Diabetes

On 1/14/95 three days after I gave birth I had several grand mal seizures.
I was on Dilantin for 2 years but went off of it during a pregnancy in
97-98. The next day after a c-section delivery, I had a couple seizures and am once again on
Dilantin. In september of 1998, I started synthroid for hypothyroidism and I also take
zoloft for depression. I also take an iron supplement and folic acid. Lately I've noticed
that I have to hold things differently in order to see them. I cannot see small writing and
have on occasion saw single floaters, such as what looks like a spot moving across my ceiling.
I am supposed to wear glasses with bi-focals and I have one eye that is nearsighted
and one that is farsighted. my left eye is what they call a lazy eye. I was told that it would
be hard to adjust to glasses and they were so right. I am 38 yrs. old and usually
sit in front of my computer for 2 or 3 hours a day. Lately I have been experiencing headaches.
Any advice would be helpful.

It sounds as though your problem is related to a glasses problem. You may need to have this rechecked. Most people do not become presbyopic (the need to wear bifocals) until they reach early to mid forties. You are a little young, however, some do need them at your age. Certainly if your vision is not accurately corrected, you may have headaches after doing tasks that require using your eyes alot. Again, I recommend having your eyes rechecked.

As you probably know, a lazy eye is an eye where the visual pathway did not fully develop when you where younger. Unfortunately, glasses will not fully correct this.

Floaters are common. These are usually caused by changes in the vitreous or gel in the eye. One floater is not usually significant, however, they can be associated with retinal problems. You need to have a dilated eye exam.

Good luck.
