Cramps and fears after D § C- please respond!

by maggles, May 01, 2003 12:00AM
Hi,

I had a D&C on Tuesday after a 7 1/2 week ultrasound determined that the fetus did not develop after 6 weeks, and my HCG numbers dropped off, no  heartbeat, etc.  I opted for D&C rather than a "natural wait" to miscarry.  It hurt a lot for 5 minutes( I didn't get put under) but I felt no pain after about 10 minutes had passed after the procedure, until today, two days later. I had a little cramps yesterday a.m., like my period, which responded to one dose of Advil and I needed no more.  Starting this a.m. I've had moderate, rather painful, distracting cramps which come and go (mostly come) and have taken 700 mg of Advil already, just to keep them tolerable.  It's my first day back at work (doing  a 1/2 day) and I needed to be in decent shape to see my own clients ( child psychotherapist). They are not "high" pain but more uncomfortable than MY period cramps.  There is ZERO bleeding, which feels strange after all my life the heavier the cramps= the heavier the bleeding.  IS THIS NORMAL/typical,...to have cramps 2 days AFTER the d & c?  I was so happy that I didn't have any pain afterwards.  My doctor's nurse said it's normal "to cramp" but go in to the office tomorrow if it continues.  I'm scared.  ANyone else have a similar experience?????  The pain makes me feel sadder about everything.

THANKS Maggie

Yes, cramps are normal. If they are really bad, go to emergency. I'm very sorry for your loss. Take Care of Yourself.

Hi, I just had a D&C last Wed.  I have had a similiar experience and went to the doctor today.  He said it is not unusual to have cramping and/or bleeding this far out.  If you have any doubts, call the doctor. Remember, he or she is working for you!  I am sorry to hear about your loss.  I wish you the best for the future.

I am with you guys--had a D&C on Monday--and still waiting on the pathology to come back to see if it was a molar pregnancy--I to had some cramping on the second day but it was the crying part that got to me--I guess my hormones are trying to get back to normal--I think every person is differnet on when to try to get pregnant again--I think your body will tell you when it is right--Thats what I am waiting for--hopefully it will be soon-

My heart goes out to all of you.  They say most women have a healthy baby after a miscarriage, so we have every reason to be optimistic.  What we women go through.  SOutherngal, did you  have a D& C just two days ago Wedn, or LAST week Wedn?  I'm just wondering how long these cramps may last.  I'm actually thinking now some of what I'm having may be lower gas or digestional pains, since that system seems upset too by everything.  The hardest thing for me right now is coping with WORK this week.  If I could just be home and deal w/ the emotional/physical issues and forget all that it would help a lot.  But I am a psychotherapist and was on Spring break LAST week w/ my family, so everyone is waiting to see me upset themselves.  I am just limping through the week, cancelling what I can and doing what I absolutely must.  Anyone else have work woes????  Thanks for your comments.  MAGGIE

I agree with you totally--I thought coming to work would make things easier and get my mind off of things but it didnt work at all---I agree totally on the gas also--I have exchanged my cramps for some major gas pains---that makes for along day in a cubicle in a busy work office--hahahaha
