caused by drusens ?

by 5234, May 02, 2007 12:00AM
Thanks for the answer about why when I look only thru my right eye straight lines look bent.If you agree with my other doctors that is caused by drusens and NOT  Macular degeneration Can they also cause areas of vision to be sometime be  missing, like reading newspaper or looking at the amsler chart ( reading only thru my right eye) which now stays red and dry all the time.I can not stop looking thru the one eye. Can anxiety make my eye worse than it is? also do you know any web sites that talk about drusens without talking about AMD. THANKS FOR PUTING UP WITH MY WORRYS.

'Can they also cause areas of vision to be sometime be missing, like reading newspaper or looking at the amsler chart ( reading only thru my right eye)'

yes.  all the same problem, assumedly the drusen.

'which now stays red and dry all the time.'

unrelated in any way to the drusen.

'Can anxiety make my eye worse than it is?'

no.

'also do you know any web sites that talk about drusens without talking about AMD'

no.  they're similar problems and probably related, so they're always going to be mentioned together.

so, drusen are oten,m but not always, are a forerunner to AMD? hmm. if you had them at an early-ish age, say 35, would the doctor always seem them? and if so, would they always tell you of their presence?

it depends on the doctor and the severity.  thats like saying if i saw a woman wearing a lime green leisure suit would i *ALWAYS* tell my wife about it later?

no way to know who would tell who what.  lots of times if vision is not affected, docs including myself dont look really, really hard for every possible minute thing that could be present.  i mean, yeah...if the drisen were OBVIOUS to the doc or if your vision was affected, they should have been mentioned.  thats like saying the lime green leisure suit lady bumped into my car in the parking lot.  cant "skip" mentioning that.  but if vision is FINE and drusen are SUBTLE and hard to find...no i doubt any doc would mention them.

no, there is no "always" anything in medicine.

Hello Have you tried calling the NY offices for the number I gave you.  They might just be able to either recommend someone in your state or be able to answer questions over the phone it cant hurt to try.  But diabetes can cause drusens too.  I understand somewhat in what your going thru with my husband still seeing bent and black, though his is not caused by drusen it does produce similar seeing problems.  Wishing you well.

Straight lines appear bent
When I close my left eye, Straight lines appear bent or curved in the right eye. With small  areas of vision missing only in that eye My eye doctor sent me to a retina consultant; he did not find any macular degeneration, Retinal detachment or a pucker. He said he did not see any thing that would be the cause of my symptoms. He sent me to Duke University eye center. They only found a few hard drusens that they felt could be the cause of my  proplem but not100% .Doctor Said lets just keep A eye on it and see if it changes. I still have a lot of anxiety about my eye .Do you recongnize any thing that would cause my symptoms other than the retina I am a white male 58 years old.  With a lot of anxety .THANKS ***@****

My husband is the one with the eye problem wavy lines look bent. Plus black circle of gray in the central vision. It is unusual that you have drusen and no know cause or they think otherwise.  I can ask my husband if next time he goes he can ask his doctor more about Drusen.  The only other thing I can think of instead of emailing them please call and fax over your report to them.  You just might get a better/quicker  response.  My husbands next appointmet is on June 1st he has to go once a month and just went the first of may. So maybe you can contact them sooner In case you need it here is the phone number 212-861-9797  the fax number is 212-628-0698.  I actually dont understand how they dont have more of an answer for you.  I would think that the doctors have to have a better understanding on what is causing your problem especially the drusen.  Wishing you well
