Right Eye Allergies?

by T Mommy, May 01, 2007 12:00AM
First of all, I'm not sure if it makes a difference, but I'm 7 months pregnant. I went to my eye doctor for a routine exam a month ago. When I went, I was also having some discharge in both of my eyes, more in the right eye and the right eye was smaller when I would wake up in the morning. He said that it looked like allergies and since I'm pregnant there's really no drops I can use. The discharge has gone away, but now at night my right eye is sometimes harder to open. It seems very dry. My nose also seems very dry. I still wake up with it slightly smaller. It goes back to normal within a few minutes of being awake. Sometimes I feel like someone is lightly touching my upper eye lid. I don't know if this is just a phenomenon of my imagination or not. It doesn't really hurt. Sometimes I will feel a slight pain in my eyelid or in between my eyelid and my nose. It itches sometimes. It burns sometimes. I also sometimes feel a little discomfort in my cheek by my teeth or in my nose. So, should I just say this is all allergy related still, or should I see my doctor again? It seems to bother me more at night. Do you know why this is? I don't have any vision problems. In fact, if I'm doing something to take my mind off of it, I really don't notice anything wrong. But, I still want to make sure it isn't something more serious than allergies. Thanks.

well, none of that is alarming, and none of that is particularly 'fixable'.  so no, i dont think you probably need to be calling your doctor again.  yes, that could be and probably is allergy related.

Hi,
I wanted to clarify something as I'm having problems with one eye that are somewhat similar to yours.  What did you mean when you say that the eye is smaller?  Are the lids around the eye swollen giving the appearance of the eye being smaller?

With regards to the pain you describe, I've had 19 sinus infections in 24 months, and the pain in your cheek and close to your nose sound a lot like sinusitis.  I was told that by my ob-gyn once that hormonal changes during pregnancy can cause inflamation of the sinus cavities.  Unfortunately, at least for me they really didn't go away after birth either.

My bottom lid sometimes looks a little puffy. It's barely noticable. My sinuses have definately been worse during this pregnancy. Sorry to hear you've have so much trouble with yours. It can definately be worrisome!

Hi again. Now, I'm not having any pain or noticing anything wrong with my right eye during the day, but when I go to bed I will sometimes have a pain that is barely noticable above my right eye. Both of my lids are slightly puffy when I wake in the morning. It's not red. It does sometimes feel dry in the morning. It seems like my eye lids start to get puffy when I am tired. It almost feels like this eye is more tired. Does that make any sense? What could this be?
