ReZoom Lens implant

by jimstew, Feb 18, 2007 12:00AM
I had ReZoom lens implant in both eyes 2 months ago. My left eye is fine but my right eye I see a light shadow of the image to the upper left. I was told by my doctor that is will go away from one month to a year. Any coment?

I have the same problem and after 8 months, shadows and ghosting have not improved. I truly believe this is a permanent condition. I have to figure out what to do next. I don't think I can accept this condition and live with this problem for the rest of my life. Good luck to both of us

I had my first ReZoom lens implanted on Feb 8. My vision has not remained constant, being more clear one day and less the next, then back to clear. Right now, I have two concerns: One is that my vision can be really clear when outside in the sunlight (I can even read a magazine), but when I walk into a room with normal indoor lighting, everything is blurry at all distances and I definitely am not able to read the text that I was easily reading a minute before. Its so bad that its like I never had a lens implanted at all. The blurriness also remains when I cover my 'other' eye and only see through the ReZoom eye.  I am hopeful that this is still because its only three weeks since the surgery and things will improve.   My other concern is the nighttime 'halos' that are around lights. I have noticed that I see them briefly, but then my other eye seems to take over and the halos aren't noticeable.  I am worried that when I have the other ReZoom implsnted on March 22, that I will see the halos constantly at night through two ReZoom eyes and not have a 'normal' lens to fall back on. The doctor says that they will improve over time, but I'd really like to hear from someone who has actually had halos that improved. Also, when I see the halos, the rest of what I see in the distance is blurry.  It is almost impossible to feel I can drive safely like this. I do see the ghosting and shadow that jimstew has mentioned, and I hope that will go away too, but I feel nervous about it and almost think I just should have gone with the old fashioned cataract iols.

I feel your vision should stabilize in another month, being clear one day and less clear the next because it's only been one month.
You are seeing "HALOS" looking through the rezoom lens but then your other eye takes over because it is 20/20 and the halos aren't as noticeable. Why do you want a rezoom lens put in this eye? You may or you may not see halos when you have a lens in both eyes. I'm wondering if you have stigmatism in the eye you had the implant? Do you have stigmatism in both eyes? I'll be seeing my doctor who did the surgery March 27th. I'll get back to you at that time. I also would like to hear from someone who has had a rezoom lens for over a year.

I agree that you should reconsider your decision to get a second ReZoom.  There is excellent information on this website--you should definitely read through the archives.  I'm not an eye care professional (and I have monofocal IOLs), but from what I've read vision with ReZoom depends on lighting and pupil size.  Maybe a second ReZoom (and more time) would decrease the difference between your clear outdoor vision and blurry indoor vision, but maybe not.  (There's info about this issue in past threads.)  My suggestion is to consider getting a ReStor lens in your second eye instead of ReZoom.  ReStor is reported to produce fewer halos, and a ReZoom/ReStor combo may give you better vision in all lighting situations.

You definitely need to have more information before making a decision about your second eye, and you need to discuss your options with your surgeon.  It wouldn't be a bad idea to get a second opinion from another doc who is experienced with both ReZoom and ReStor.  (As you will discover, there are MANY unhappy people posting here who wish they had done more research before their surgery.)

Hi i am new to this forum and this is my first posting so forgive me if this question has already been asked and answered.

I am considering lens replacement surgery.  I am 60 yrs old.  I am aware of the pros and cons and the possible problems associated with clear lens replacement. i am extremely myopic.  I would like to use the rezoom lens.  My problem is that I have indications of some minor cataract developement but it is nowhere near a problem that would allow for the cost to be covered by insurance.  The cost of this surgery would be out of the question in this country.  I have been quoted anywhere from 9000 to 15,000.  There are several countries where it is in a much more reasonable price range, as a matter of fact almost anywhere outside the US. PLEASE do not lecture me on the "superior" medical care in this country.  I am aware that there are many fine surgeons in this country but there are many great sugeons all over the world.

My problem is that I do not how to locate doctors that implant rezoom lenses in other countries (AMO, unbelievably, has been of no assistance with this).

Is there anyway that I could check the credentials of doctors in other countries or an international organization that rates or accredits doctors from other countries?

I am considering India and Argentina but I am open to other possibilities.  If anybody has specific recommendations based on their experience I would certainly appreciate them.

My email is denver_bob***@****

Thanks in advance.

I had Rezoom lens put into each eye in January. Left eye is fine but right eye I see ghost images. I found out that if it doesn't clear up in six more weeks that they will have to repositon the lens.

Something else that can cause shadows (ghosting) and Halos is that the lens is out of position due to small bubbles in the eye that can tilt the lens on it's axes just a little bit.

I had one ReZoom lens place in one eye on Jan 30, 2007 and the other one 1 week later.  Everything during the day is great.  I do have a little ghosting but nothing that I can't get use too.  My problem is halos at night.  What I see are large wagon wheel type halos.  In the distance they are about twice the size (or bigger) as the light.  As I get closer to the light the halos get more dense and the halo becomes smaller.  When I am coming to a busy intersection in the distance my line of vision is completely covered with wagon wheel halos of many different colors, some are hugh. It's been 10 weeks and the halos have not gotten any better since the lenses were first placed in my eyes.  Has anyone out there had these halos as long as I have?  Has anyone out there had halos for longer that me and have had them go away?

I had Rezoom lens put in both eyes in January 2007. I had the same experience as you but only in my right eye. I was told by my doctor yesterday that the implant lens is not centered (off one millimeter). He will have to go back in and adjust the lens by the two springs attached to the lens. I will let you know how things look after he does the operation again probably in May.
