Prominet blood vessels in eye

by brocky1, Feb 16, 2007 12:00AM
I have prominet blood vessels in my eye which I would like to investigate if I can have them quarterized.  I have gone to several opthamalogists who say that they do not do that surgery.  Can you recommend someone in the Philadelphia/New Jersey area that does the surgery and if not - what are the drawbacks of the surgery?

no, i have no idea who to go to for that in philly.  sorry

not a common surgical procedure.  what are the drawbacks?  to cauterize it might cause low blood flow/hypoxia to the corresponding conjunctiva/cornea.  many possible repercussions of that.  but then again, you may have enough other blood vessels to make up for it... plus there's the possibility of a scar at the cauterization site.  that may cause dryness, discomfort, contact lens intolerace, etc etc.  but maybe not...

Hello,

I have suffered from the exact same problem. I have been to the most prominent opticians in Florida (which is where I live) and all have been stumped by the cause of these vessels.  One optician stated that he could cauterize the vessels for me - so I went to another optician at the Bascom Palmer Institute to get a second opinion on the matter before I made the decision.  I was advised by the second optician that I should be careful, because there may be scarring.  I was stubborn, and decided to get the surgery done.  The doctor decided to perform a "wet field" cauterization of the vessels.  The surgery was done in July of 2006.  To this day, I still have a scar.  There has been no change at all.  It was a complete waste of time.  I have to say, I was also warned by the doctor who performed the surgery that there would be a scar, and that he could not tell how long it would heal.
