lower peripheral vision after scleral encircling

by someone, Feb 01, 2007 12:00AM
Hi there. I'm 28 years old. I had argon laser opr. for the peripheral tear and detachment 3,5 months ago. After that, I had a scleral encircling operation 2 months ago. My tear and detachment was at the upper temporal area. My doc says that i have %100 vision, and the retina is attached. But i have  lower vision at the peripheral area, on the contrary side of my detached area, like a vertical set, like horse glasses. To see my right near side, i need to turn my head. When i ask to my doc. he said this might be after encircling operations. I asked for 2nd opinion, but i couldn't get any answer from another doc.

Why my peripheral vision could be decreased, and will i have any recovery,

Thanks,

many people complain of similar vision problems post 'buckle' surgery.  the symptoms you describe do sound to me like they are probably from the buckle/surgery.  if that is the case, no...you wont ever have 'recovery' from that symptom...

i tell people this all the time: buckle reattachment surgery is not nice.  its an extreme situation.  almost kind of a last-ditch effort.  it frequently works to 'save' the vision in the affected eye, but IMO it almost NEVER gives vision that approaches the vision you had in that eye pre-RD.  every buckle patient i've ever seen tells me the same thing: their vision isnt as good as the other eye, isnt as good as before the surgery, has a bunch of 'weird' hard-to-describe phenomena, but is probably better than NO vision.
