Something 'moving' in eye

by JustWant2See, Dec 13, 2006 12:00AM
I am male 52, ReZoom IOL implanted in right eye in May. In July, I had a YaG treatment for some early PCO. What developed shortly after was an annoying “thing” that moves across my field of vision every time I look down and then back up.

Doesn't seem like floaters I've had before. Seems much bigger and closer to the front of the eye, like just behind the cornea. Best way I can describe the effect I see is almost as if some put a tiny spot of something viscous, like honey, at the top of my pupil (on the outside of the cornea), and the spot quickly runs down my eye and is gone in a ¼ second or so. I see a quick blur, like something quickly moved across my eye a fraction of an inch from it.

I barely notice the effect indoors, but outside, in bright sun, it is VERY noticeable. Every time I glance down at the gauges when I’m driving, then look back up, I see it flick across my eye; very annoying! Just a slight movement of the eyes down and then I see it when I look back up.

More info:I usually don’t see this effect when I first awake. I am usually awake for about 1-2 hours before I first notice it. Then when it starts, it will happen again for most of the rest of the day. a few times, I haven’t seen it until mid-afternoon. Sometimes it may seem to go away after a while, or maybe I ignore it after a while?

I asked my Dr. and he said he didn’t see anything, it was probably a floater?

I was thinking that maybe a flap of something left over from the YaG?

Has anyone had this problem besides me? What are the possibilities for what it could be? Should I be concerned?

yes, that is a floater.  even if it doesnt look like the other floaters you have had, the way you describe it is classic floater symptom description.  ESPECIALLY since your surgeon cant see anything.

it is not just behind your cornea.  it is not anything left over from yag.  those kinds of defects do not "move".  if you had "something left over from yag" it would be in the same place in your vision 24/7.  the fact that it moves means it has to be vitreal.

no, you should not be concerned.  it is for the most part untreatable.  it will likely go away on its own in just under a year.
