Crystalens Implant Experience

by jessedog, Nov 06, 2006 12:00AM
I had a Crystalens IOL implanted last week on Nov 1st.  The day after surgery my vision was 20/50 in that eye but I was esperiencing ghosting and was uncomfortable driving.  It is almost a week later and I feel my vision has not improved (still experiencing ghosting).  My vision in the other eye is still ok (Cataract is not advanced yet) so I am driving during the day but will not drive at night.  Funny thing is I can read clearly up to about 20 inches so I am ok on the computer or reading a book.  My doctor had told me that calculating the proper lens strength was going to be more involved because of previous Lasik surgery but I was expecting better distance vision.

Does this sound like a normal experience with Crystalens?  I have a follow-up apt tomorrow.

Thanks.

all of that is fine.  you could still improve significantly with time.  one week out is not nearly enough time to "judge" the performance yet...

Normal p.o. experience, post lasik a little harder to hit distance correction with IOL.

I had a follow-up visit today and the Doc told me that I have an astigmatism which is causing my problem.  He said that I must have originally had some astigmatism on my lens (or lens sack) which was compensated for with my original LASIK but now that a new lens is in place is over corrected causing problems.  We are going to wait at least a month before considering follow-up LASIK surgery to adjust for the astigmatism.  I will wear glasses while driving until then.

jessedog:

How are you doing now after your last surgery?

Can you see with the new lense better now than you

could after surgery?

I have the same problem as you described with the

crystalens.

Sorry I have not responded, I have not been on this forum in a few weeks.  I have lasik surgery scheduled for February 15th which will correct an astigmatism problem and a slight near-sighted problem I am having with my Crystalens eye.  My doctor told me that the calculations were made more difficult because of the initial Lasik surgery and that is why I am a bit near-sighted.  The astigmatism problem could only be satisfactorily corrected with this follow-up Lasik procedure.  Regarding the lens itself, it has settled down and I no longer have any discomfort or any considerable glare like I did when it was first implanted.  I'll wait for after the LASIK surgery to comment on my reading ability since I'm a bit near-sighted right now I'm expecting my reading to be a bit worse after the surgery.

Good luck to you.

In order to calculate the correct lens powers for patients who have had previous refractive surgery you have to have the pre-lasik keratometry readings. K readings refer to the curvature of your cornea.  The ghosting is likely coming from the lasik procedure not the lens.
